Mount Damavand – Amol

Mount Damavand is a mountain in the north of Iran which is known as the highest mountain in the country and the tallest volcanic mountain in the Middle East. It stands in the central part of Alborz Mountain Range south of the Caspian Sea in the Larijan Distric of Amol County. Based on administrative divisions, Damavand Mountain Peak is located in Mazandaran Province; however, it is visible from Tehran, Varamin, and Qom cities as well as from the seaboards of the Caspian Sea. The nearest large city to the mountain is Larijan. Mount Damavand was registered in the list of Iran's National Heritage as the first natural monument of Iran in 2002. Moreover, Mount Damavand has been included among the four valuable areas in terms of "the environment protection" since 2002 under the name of "The National Natural Monument". Damavand has also been mentioned in Persian mythology, and its fame mostly comes from the fact that the brutal tyrant Zahhāk was chained within the mountain. In Persian literature, this mythology in particular and Mount Damavand in general have been frequently mentioned. Damavand contains Larijan, Ask, and Vaneh hot springs. There is a frozen waterfall in the southern part of the mountain, which is unique all around the world. It is 7 meters high with a diameter of 3 meters. The ice of the waterfall will never be melted. According to Iran's statistics, Mount Damavand is 5610 meters high.
